WATERFIELD FARM

GREAT BRADLEY, SUFFOLK
A CONVERSION OF AN 18th CENTURY FIELD BARN

Waterfield begins its journey from disaster to triumph.
The basic form of the barn re-emerges as modern farm buildings and equipment are removed.

For the first time in many years the front entrance is used. Underpinning and repairs to the timber frame are carried out.

A steel frame to support the first floor and roof is introduced. The walls are constructed and original lean-to extensions are rebuilt.

The original roof had been replaced with a temporary cover. A new roof is cut and braced with ply for added strength.

The roof is insulated and prepared for slating. Windows and doors are fitted and the barn is re-clad in traditional black featheredge boarding.

The conversion complete, Waterfield now provides unique space and accommodation surrounded by unspoilt countryside.

Looking back across the living room to an oak door which in turn leads to an inner hall and the downstairs bedrooms.

From the far end of the living room, the eye wanders across the solid oak floor to the bar area and the views beyond.

The large open plan areas and vaulted ceilings give a magical feeling of space and height.

A view from the main reception room to the hall. The front door is solid oak.

A view from the staircase.

Light and spacious with breathtaking views across the meadows.

The kitchen is the ultimate proof that mixing modern and traditional works, if it is done with respect for the existing building.

The modern curves and style of the blue Italian kitchen blend well with the traditional beams.
